The Role
Are you a passionate SHEQ leader who thrives on creating safe, compliant, and high-performing work environments? We are looking for an experienced Country SHEQ Manager to lead our Safety, Health, Environment and Quality function across our operations in Guyana.
In this pivotal leadership role, you will work closely with the Group Head of SHEQ to drive our SHEQ strategy, ensuring our Integrated Management System (IMS), policies, and standards are consistently implemented across all project activities. You will play a key role in shaping a proactive safety culture, reducing operational risk, ensuring regulatory compliance, and championing quality throughout the business.
Leading the Guyana SHEQ team, you will partner with operational leaders, contractors, suppliers, and external stakeholders to embed best practice, support continuous improvement, and ensure every project is delivered safely, responsibly, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Work in partnership with the Group Head of SHEQ to ensure all country-level SHEQ systems, processes, and documentation align with Company standards, IMS requirements, and Group SHEQ strategy.
- Implement and manage a comprehensive safety and risk management strategy aligned with company goals and industry best practices.
- Lead and support with the conduction SHEQ risk assessments across all project activities and ensuring risks are identified and safety measures implemented.
- Ensure the safety of all project personnel through the implementation of safety protocols, training, and the provision of safety equipment and the required PPE.
- Oversee compliance with environmental regulations and standards, including waste management and environmental impact assessments across all project activities.
- Manage quality assurance processes to ensure all project activities meet quality standards and specifications.
- Develop and maintain incident response plans for all project activities to address safety breaches, accidents, and other emergencies.
- Conduct incident and non-compliance investigations and introduce processes and procedures to prevent recurrence.
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections across project sites, offices, and operational areas to monitor compliance with safety policies.
- Collaborate with contractors and suppliers to ensure they meet safety requirements.
- Provide Health, Safety, and Environmental training to employees and contractors across all project activities, ensuring adherence to best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Establish emergency response procedures for all project activities and coordinate with local authorities when required.
- Ensure compliance with safety, health, environment, and quality regulations, standards, and certifications.
- Maintain accurate and organized documentation related to health, safety, quality, and environmental measures.
- Ensure all documentation aligns with IMS requirements and is consistent with Group SHEQ standards.
- Weekly progress reports to management, highlighting potential issues, threats, and suggestions for mitigation.
- Escalate key SHEQ risks, trends, and compliance matters to the Group Head of SHEQ to support Group-level oversight and assurance.
- Review all project SHEQ documentation at regular intervals, ensuring alignment with Company standards and the Integrated Management System (IMS).
- Work collaboratively with the Group Head of SHEQ to update, refine, and standardise policies and procedures.
- Ensure all project-specific documentation remains current, compliant, and consistent with Group SHEQ requirements.
- Lead, manage, and develop the SHEQ team in Guyana, ensuring consistent application of Company standards and IMS requirements across all project activities.
- Act as the primary SHEQ liaison for Guyana, ensuring effective communication and alignment with the Group Head of SHEQ.
Essential Criteria
Your Experience & Skills
- Proven experience in SHEQ & safety management (ideally within the construction industry).
- Extensive knowledge of Safety, Health, Environment and Quality standards and ISO Accreditation / Certification.
- Fluent in English.
- Formal qualification in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent.
